Services

Transpersonally-based services are grounded in the theory and practice of transpersonal psychology and psychotherapy and an extended cartography of the human psyche. This extended cartography includes traditional areas of concerns related to one's early childhood issues and extends the experiential range to include pre and perinatal developmental issues and the entire range of transpersonal phenomena.  The central role of spirituality as critically important for health and wellness is a basic tenet of transpersonal psychology and psychotherapy.  Technologies of transcendence provide language and methods to support enhanced states of awareness in which the patients' own inner healing resources are mobilized to facilitate deep and effective positive change.

The importance of both a person's micro-social influences such as intimate relationships, friendships, family and community are incorporated in our work. Macro-systems issues such as community and culture play an important role in working with spiritual emergency, too.  The Center for Spiritual Emergence's systems-orientation help to explore and utilize the natural supports and strengths patients have available to help with these deep transitions. Identifying and working through systemic challenges is a key area to support integration following the acute phases of recovery.

Incorporating body-centered and somatic disciplines in working with spiritual emergency and addiction recovery ensures effective strategies for facilitating, experiencing, expressing and integrating the material that arises in resolution and integration of these issues.  Body-centered psychotherapy,  psychomotor therapy, holotropic breathwork, movement, expressive arts, massage, Qigong and yoga and other body-centered therapies are used.  An additional component of physical wellness including nutritional support and gut health help increase the effectiveness of the work.

Trauma-integrated treatment recognizes and works with biographical, pre and perinatal, trans-generational trauma and related transpersonal phenomena.  This approach includes traditional areas of trauma-integrated treatment, increasing the depth of and scope of trauma work to include additional effective therapeutic mechanisms such as psychological death/rebirth experiences and opening to one's essential spiritual identity.

The Center for Spiritual Emergence (CSE) is designed specifically to meet the unique and often challenging needs of addressing spiritual emergence and spiritual emergency.  We offer a variety of experiential approaches that can help one move through the depths of the "Dark Night of the Soul" or integrate profound and awe-inspiring openings to the Divine.  Both of these two major categories of spiritual emergence/emergency can be overwhelming and difficult to work through without help.  CSE provides understanding, support, guidance, acceptance and skillfulness in resolving these issues.  Particular emphasis is placed on integration and grounding.  Reentry into day-to-day life following the acute phase of spiritual emergency offers specific tools for enhancing physical well-being, supporting emotional balance, interpersonal engagement and spiritual connectedness.  CSE is licensed by the North Carolina Department of Health Service Regulation as a Partial Hospitalization Program, mental health services, specializing in spiritual emergency.
Katharos Sanctuary is licensed by the North Carolina Department of Health Service Regulation as an Intensive Outpatient Program for addiction treatment.  We provide integrated bio-psycho-social-spiritual services to help patients with substance use disorders and addiction interaction disorder.  Addiction is a complex brain, body, social and mental and spiritual dis-ease.  Understanding and supporting brain function with principles and practices related to neuroplasticity, the pleasure reward systems and the effects trauma has on the brain are critical to successful treatment of addiction.  Emotional regulation, attachment wounding and the impact of interpersonal dysfunction are also vital areas that are addressed at Katharos Sanctuary.  Authentic spiritual experience and awakening restores the recovering persons connection to the self, others and the universe and is a key element in preventing relapse once the acute phase of treatment is complete.  Like our sister program, CSE, the therapist and staff usually have a deep personal experience in working with addiction and addiction interaction disorder.
